Locklocks' Bio

Longlocks was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and given the name Laura May. She spent her first seven years in Georgia, but when her father left her mother, the family moved to Oregon.

Her mother took up with a loser boyfriend who abused Longlocks and her sister. Unfortunately, Longlocks' mother was blind to her boyfriend's more cruel qualities, and never acknowledged the damage he inflicted on her daughters. In an effort to cope with her chaotic home life, Longlocks turned to drugs to help numb the pain.

She squeaked through high school and earned her diploma (becoming the first family member in three generations to graduate). Eager to be free of her family, she moved to California where she took up modeling. She used her childhood nickname, Longlocks, as her professional name.

While she did earn success as a model, she was much more interested in what went on behind the camera than in front of it. After a series of lucky breaks, she transitioned into a career as a fashion photographer.

Longlocks' ability to understand the model's perspective, as well as her unique creative vision, soon earned her renown as a photographer. But working in such a highly competitive field took it's toll on her, and her drug problem worsened. After a period of bad publicity, she entered the Betty Ford clinic.

Rehab helped Longlocks to get control of her use of barbituates, but it didn't address her underlying pain. At heart a gentle person, the dog-eat-dog fashion world was chewing her up alive. She battles prescription drug addiction (sleeping pills to fight her persistent insomnia) while she strives for artistic perfection. Her close friends--Glori and Fancy Feet--help keep her sane.
