Dawn Trivia

Here I've gathered facts about Dawn (gleaned through personal research) that could only interest a devoted collector.

This is interesting primarily if you want to re-root a Dawn doll's hair....

In a standard Angie head, I counted 18 strands of hair in one plug (in the back) and 16 strands in another (in the front).

What's with Dawn dolls with extra hair? I have some Dawn's (and only Dawn, not other dolls) that have more rows of hair plugs then others. The hair on these dolls seems coarser than the less-heavily rooted dolls. Go figure.

While watching television one evening, I decided to compare measurements between Dawn and B*rbie. My goal was to determine how to modify patterns for 11.5" dolls to fit Dawn. I used centimeters because, as a child of the Dawn doll era, I was taught the metric system and have been awkward with inches ever since! I don't pretend that these are absolutely precise measurements, but they are the best I could do while still keeping track of Mystery Science Theater 3000.

I discovered that Dawn is really half the size of Barbie, except that her head + neck measurement and her legs are proportionally slightly longer.

Other measurements that differ:

  • Her arms are very slightly shorter than Barbie's arms
  • Her waist is a teeny tiny bit wider
  • Her hips are wider -- making her more of a woman, in my opinion. Barbie has the body of a drag queen; Dawn is a real woman!
